Symposium at a Glance:

February 21-24, 2010

La Crosse, Wisconsin

The inaugural Upper Midwest Stream Restoration Symposium will bring together leading national and regional stream restoration practitioners for presentations and discussions on important regional stream and river restoration issues. This symposium is designed to foster exchange, conversation, and new collaborations among restoration practitioners in the upper Midwest. 

Symposium registration includes attendance to all sessions, housing, and meals during the conference. Space is limited to 120 participants.
 
Symposium topics will include:
  • Pre and post monitoring for stream restoration
  • Stream restoration design
  • Restoration monitoring: ecological, geomorphic and hydraulic
  • Large-river restoration
  • Dams and dam removal
  • Numerical modeling in restoration design
  • The channel-floodplain connection
  • Great Lakes Restoration

Format: Single track with 18 speaker slots and 50 posters.

The symposium will involve both oral and poster presentations, and presenters will select their preference upon registration. The UMSRS seeks practitioners and researchers at the leading edge of our field. All oral and poster presentation will be made available to attendees and the broader upper Midwest stream restoration community through the PRRSUM website.

This symposium is organized by the National Center for Earth-surface Dynamics, an NSF sponsored Science and Technology Center, and the St. Anthony Falls Laboratory, which is affiliated with the Institute of Technology, and the departments of Civil Engineering; Geology and Geophysics; and Ecology, Evolution and Behavior at the University of Minnesota.
